Getting to Chamonix

Fly

Without a doubt the easiest airport to fly into for accessing Chamonix is Geneva, it is just 1 hour away by car, almost the entire trip is on a motorway and there are ample transfer companies to meet your flight.

We can arrange transfers for you from Geneva. Go to our transfer page or email us at office@highmountain.co.uk

You can find details of who fly’s into Geneva airport (GVA) on their website www.gva.ch

Geneva airport has a Swiss & French side and car rental is available on both sides. If you have the option then renting from the Swiss side is generally easier and quicker.

It is worth noting however that Geneva isn’t the only option. Chambery airport is about 1 ½ hour’s drive from Chamonix and both Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport and Milan Malpensa are about 2 ½ hours from Chamonix. For those flying in from around France, Annecy airport is also an option and only 1 hour away. Unfortunately there are fewer transfers available from these airports so car rental is the best option.

By car

Chamonix is geographically fairly central in Europe so no matter which point on the compass you are coming from you will almost certainly be able to get most of the way on a motorway.

Don’t forget that in winter your vehicle needs to be snow equipped with either snow tyres, chains or tyre socks. Contact us if you aren’t sure what is best.

For detailed information on how to get here by car contact us or check out Google maps.

Rail

For the romantically & environmentally minded, travelling to Chamonix by train is a wonderfully scenic journey and fairly easy on the wallet.

Their are various ways to get to Chamonix on the train. The 2 main ways from London are outlined below. There is a new non-profit website that has excellent info on travelling to ski resorts from the UK. www.snowcarbon.co.uk

The main route is to get the Eurostar to Paris and onto St Gervais La Fayet where you join the local network for the short trip to Chamonix. Further details at www.raileurope.co.uk

During the winter months there is also a EUROSTAR service between London St Pancras and Martigny in Switzerland which is just 45 minutes from Chamonix. We can arrange transfers from Martigny or you can catch the train which takes about 1 hour 30 minutes. More details at the Eurostar
